The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has been adapted into a graphic novel, and said graphic novel has made it to store shelves, and takes Link back to his roots with original Zelda baddie Agahnim; the dark wizard. After hearing the call to action from Princess Zelda via telepathy, Link grabs the sword and shield of his fallen uncle and goes forth with a mission to save the princess.

The Legend of Zelda : A Link to the Past is an 2015 graphic novel retelling of the original Nintendo Power comic. It is published by Viz Media and was originally created by Shotaro Ishinomori.

Original published as a feature in the Nintendo Power magazine, the A Link to the Past comic series was quite popular for a magazine feature, so much so that it got re-released as a manga series in 1993 as a traditional paperback comic book. As a huge fan of the Zelda franchise, I was happy to be able to get my hands on this piece of Zelda media, at a low retail price, and over 100 pages of great art and story you can’t go wrong adding this graphic novel to your Legend of Zelda collection.

THE GOOD: The art and story by creator Ishinomaroi-san is as close as it could possibly be for adapting a video game into a comic via the original source material. He did a stellar job writing in dialogue for Link, to where it’s believable to imagine Link actually having an voice over in a future game. With twelve chapters, and over 100 pages of comic book action, this is definitely the Zelda comic for any true fan of the series.

THE BAD: While I can’t imagine very much ‘bad’ with the comic, I will say that the size of this book is fairly huge, so that might be rather annoying for some.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: If you’re a huge Zelda fan like myself, then The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past the graphic novel, is definitely something to add to your Zelda media collection outside of the video games. The art and story bu Shotaro Ishinomori is a grand retelling of an even grander video game. The size however, may annoy a lot of people. Otaku Dome gives The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past the graphic novel an 90 out of 100.
