The second entry of the MCU’s version of Spider-Man is here in Spider-Man: Far From Home. After dealing with the fallout of the Infinity War, teenager Peter Parker wants to return to a semi-normal life while taking a much more laxed approach at being a superhero. Unfortunately for Peter, he has the weight of the world on his shoulders with many wondering if he will replace now deceased Tony Stark/Iron Man as the leader of the Avengers. In addition to the citizens of New York asking the tough questions Nick Fury is also breathing down his neck after a man claims to be an inter-dimensional traveler from an alternate Earth.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is a 2019 superhero film, it is produced by Marvel Studios & Columbia Pictures, and distributed by Sony Pictures. It is currently in theaters.

Editor’s Note: Near complete to complete spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home may be present within this review.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man may have been unintentionally set up as the next leader of the Avengers in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

With the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home we’ve officially reached the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase as well as the ten year long Infinity Saga. Peter’s plans to try and balance real-life with superhero life quickly goes disarray with everyone seemingly against him regardless of their interference being on purpose or not. Having expected his school field trip to Prague to be just that, it’s anything but as Nick Fury and Shield task Peter to work together with the uncertain Mysterio to dispel the area of dangerous elemental beasts, or so it would seem.

A revamped Mysterio makes his MCU debut.

THE GOOD: The epic finale to the third phase of the decade long MCU is here in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Continuing some months after the events of Endgame, the world mourns the confirmed death of Tony Stark/Iron Man and the assumed death of Steve Rogers/Captain America. Peter Parker/Spider-Man begins to suffer from hero fatigue even more so with most of New York speculating that he’ll take over as leader of the Avengers due to his close relationship to Iron Man. After debating what his future holds, Peter ultimately decides to take his school field trip as a regular teenager. Things seemingly go according plan that is until Nick Fury approaches him with a task to save Prague from multiple elemental beasts with a bit of help from parallel Earther Quentin Beck/Mysterio.

Far From Home opens a new path for X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other Marvel properties to enter the Cinematic Universe.

Continuing his struggles with balancing normal and hero life, Peter’s conflictions are further complicated by the fact that he’s come to terms with his feelings for MJ. It also doesn’t help that best friend Ned has a new budding relationship with MJ’s friend. Midway through his mission Peter is gifted full control over Avengers tech which was passed onto him by Tony on the event of his inevitable passing. Sometime after defeating the monsters, Peter feels immense pressure at the thought of being the next Tony Stark and opts to pass the technology on to Beck whom he completely trusted. Unfortunately it’s discovered that Beck was an old protege of Stark’s who went rogue and is planning to use the Avengers tech to boost his drones (which created the fake monsters) for greedy purposes. Beck uses highly advanced drones to attack and nearly kill Peter. Peter is saved by Happy and uses some of Tony’s tech to build his most advanced Spidersuit yet. Beck having planned to use the drones to create a staged cataclysmic event in Prague is defeated by Peter and killed by his own drone. After saving the city, Peter and his friends return to New York with him and MJ officially becoming a couple. Upon completing a ride along with MJ across New York the city and Peter are shocked to see a video filmed by Beck in which he blames Peter for the attack in Prague, the use of the drones, and also revealing his identity as Spider-Man,

Nick Fury makes his first main role appearance in an MCU film since “Age of Ultron”.

THE BAD: If I had to note anything wrong with Spider-Man: Far From Home it’s that the whole “MJ” thing still feels quite odd. That being said, Zendaya’s performance as the character is still entertaining.

Spider-Man: Far From Home continues the fantastic addition of Spidey into the MCU.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Spider-Man: Far From Home ends Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase on an extremely high note. High level action, comedy, and acting performances make it a heavy contender for the best Spider-Man film to date and one of the top overall MCU films out today. Otaku Dome gives Spider-Man Far From Home a 100 out of 100.
