Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is old school in current gen, and we love it!

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is a 2013 action-adventure, side-scrolling platformer game developed and published by Black Forest Games. You play the eponymous characters as they travel from the dark and light versions of multiple worlds while trying to reunite with each other. It is available on PC, PSN, XBLA, and soon the Nintendo eShop.

THE GOOD: Right away the game reminds you of classic Super Mario. There’s even times when you must jump on the heads of enemies in order to defeat them. Puzzles are fun and take some thinking in order to complete, while I haven’t encountered my first boss personally, I have seen a boss fight video, and they truly take advantage of the character switch between the two sisters.

The music was fantastic switching between rock and cute depending on which sister you were playing as. Gameplay was the perfect balance of difficult and easy. The worlds were fantastically presented with each level you moved onward to.

The Cute sister in the dark world.

THE BAD: From what I’ve experienced it doesn’t seem like there’s anymore powers between those you’ve gained in the initial start of the game, but it would be nice if there was more variety, again I haven’t quite completed the game yet, so I’ll correct this if need be once I do.

THE UGLY: Absolutely none.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is fun, beautiful and very reminiscent of the old school platformers before it. The music and visual between both versions of the worlds were fantastic, however it would have been nice to get more powers, and from the looks of things those received in the initial start are all of them. Still it’s a platformer that’s definitely worth every penny spent.
