According to a character designer for Injustice & MKX named Marco Nelor, fan favorite DC Hero Static was originally scheduled for the final roster of Injustice 2, but ended up being nixed at the last minute. Character design got as far as completed concept art with Nelor stating the character was “all ready to go”. He revealed the concept design on Instagram, but it has since been deleted after the story received traction. Artwork for Static in Injustice 2 however can still be found (as seen below):
It should be noted that Static could still find his way within the game as DLC, but its rather interesting that WBIE nearly opted to have him as a central character of the final in game roster, with possibly even some appearances within the game’s story mode. With Static’s ties to Black Lightning and the upcoming premiere of the CW TV adaption, DC and WB could be planning a bit of a resurgence for him.
