I’ve just recently gotten a chance to collect all four sets of Ranma 1/2 (yes this was my first time seeing it) and after spending time with this classic anime series I can say I may be more open to viewing comedic anime in the future. Full of comedy and even a little action, Ranma 1/2 tells the story of Ranma a young man who’s cursed and transforms into a girl the instant cold water hits him, only be turned back into a male with warm or hot water.

ranma 1/2 is an 1989 Shounen anime series, it is produced by Studio Deen and licensed by Viz Media. It is currently available on DVD. Blu-Ray, and streaming services on the internet.

With the recent anime re-releases to Blu-Ray it was only natural that beloved anime classic Ranma 1/2 receive the same treatment. If you’ve always been a fan of comedic Shounen and haven’t seen Ranma 1/2 yet (and yes there are seriously people who haven’t), then go for these box sets. Though if you’re not particular a fan of comedy mixed in with Shounen and still want to give it a try, then wait on a good deal for at least set 1.

THE GOOD: One thing you have to take notice of before even popping in the Blu-Ray or DVDs for set 1 (and perhaps even 2), is that there are two Ranma 1/2 series. One is the original, and the second was basically a reboot. Rather than re-releasing both series in separate sets (one of which was only a mere 18 episodes), they decided on combining both into a single series, so things may get a bit confusing for first time viewers, but overall this was a good business decision.

THE BAD: If you don’t like too much comedy sprinkled in with your Shounen, then this set ay not be for you. However if you still find yourself wanting to give it a try then at least wait for a good deal on set 1.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Ranma 1/2 is another classic anime series that has been well deserved of an Blu-Ray re-release. While mostly a Shounen series, the comedy can be pretty funny, but if you’re not a fan of comedic anime, then you may want to wait on a price drop for at least the first set in this 5(+?) set collection. Otaku Dome gives Ranma 1/2 Sets 1-4 an overall score of 80 out of 100.
