The second season of Oreimo comes to Blu-Ray thanks to Aniplex. Taking place after the events of season one, Kyousuke and Kirino continue their budding brother/sister relationship after Kyousuke discovers Kirino’s true personality as a young woman who loves the otaku lifestyle and hobbies and even begins to show a more open minded side to displaying her affections for eroge in public, but things are seemingly back to square one after she returns from America.

Oreimo 2 is a 2013 second season of 2010’s Oreimo, it is produced by A-1 Pictures and licensed by Aniplex of America. It is currently available in Japanese subtitles and will release on Blu-Ray on August 21, 2018.

Editor’s Note: An advanced Blu-Ray review copy of Oreimo 2 was provided by Aniplex of America in support of this review.

Kyousuke (left) and Kirino (right) continue to bond as brother and sister in Oreimo 2.

Following season one, season two of Oreimo takes things a step further by having Kirino’s otaku love being known outside of just her brother Kyousuke. Naturally this makes keeping her secret even harder to keep from her real-life friends as they inch closer and closer to discovering the truth of Kirino’s “other side” .

The awkwardness continues in Oreimo 2.

THE GOOD: Oreimo 2 gives more us some solid character development and relationship building as it takes Kirino’s otaku love out of the closet and into the open like the previous season, but she’s even closer with her otaku friends this time around. Both Kirino and Kyousuke do explore relationships outside of each other eventually, the latter eventually getting a girlfriend out of it along with an alternative love interest. The hint of incest is still present, but it’s often counteracted by said outside relationships that both Kirino and Kyousuke develop throughout the season.

Season 2 kind of feels like a step backwards with Kirino once again disliking Kyousuke even if it is out of jealously on Kirino’s part.

THE BAD: As mentioned in the Oreimo review, the incest vibes are strong here and only gets worse in season two. So if you’re not into implied incest or otherwise then it likely won’t be for you, especially on the second go round.

Kirino and Kyousuke’s relationship continues it’s ups and downs with more downs seemingly as Kirino opens up to being a more public otaku.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Oreimo 2 while holding itself back from a bit of a repeated storyline does offer some new relationship building for Kirino and Kyousuke. The love square between Kyousuke, Kirino, Ayase, and Ruri often provides most of the drama and comedy throughout and balances out a lot of the implied incest between Kirino and Kyousuke. Otaku Dome gives Oreimo 2 a 75 out of 100.
