After revealing plans to revive several 90s cartoon classics in some form or another, Nickelodeon is reportedly developing an major 90s live-action/animation hybrid film similar in vein to Marvel’s The Avengers and WB’s The LEGO Movie. Coming from Combic Book Resources and originally sourced to The Tracking Board, Nick is apparently kicking off it’s 90s revival with a film that would see several of its 90s properties meet up on the silver screen. The only Nicktoons mentioned by name for the film thus far are cult classics Rugrats, The Angry Beavers,  Hey Arnold!, Ren & Stimpy, and Rocko’s Modern Life, but others are obviously expected. The apparent hold up on the film getting greenlight for production is the rights to several series that Nickelodeon doesn’t own.

TB states that their sources say Mary Parent and Cale Boyer of Disruptive Entertainment are leading development of the film, with Parent being in charges of obtaining the rights to use characters Nick no longer has control over. For those unaware, Parent had a hefty role in developing this year’s Spongebob the move sequel; Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water. Parent is currently in the process of searching for scribes to pen the script of the film. TB also notes that the studio isn’t planning to give these characters an updated ‘more modern’ look for the film. The film should it received the greenlight is likely the kickoff point of Nick’s 90s revival which was announced sometime last week, by President of Content Development Russell Hicks.
