After years of trying to get off the ground with it’s own original IP, the USA Network has finally found it’s stand with it’s latest series, Mr. Robot. Main character Elliot; a hacker, faces a number of issues including drug abuse, paranoia, isolation, and more in an heavily tech savvy drama story. Along the way, twists and turns throughout the season reveals that Elliot is a far more troubled person than originally realized.

After weeks of delay and the request of friends, I finally decided on giving Mr. Robot a chance, and with 9 episodes having already been released by the point I began to watch, it made things a lot easier for me, and binging helped avoid any possible confusion with the story. Luckily, recent tech shows such as Silicon Valley, made getting into the story concept of Mr. Robot even easier, the main cast and writing however kept me going with every episode, and I couldn’t wait to see the next one.

Mr. Robot's strong supporting cast helps bring the series together, and Elliot doesn't feel like the only important character. MR. ROBOT -- "m1rr0r1ng.qt" Episode 109 -- Pictured: (l-r) Portia Doubleday as Angela Moss, Carly Chaikin as Darlene -- (Photo by: Virginia Sherwood/USA Network)

Warning: Complete to near complete spoilers for Mr. Robot season 1 are beyond this point, you have been warned.

THE GOOD: Mr. Robot while not particularly heavy in drama in the early episodes did a great job making tech apart of it. It felt like the world in Mr. Robot couldn’t survive without it’s technology, and with Elliot being a hacker, he had the world at his fingertips. The big & tragic reveal of Elliot being Mr. Robot, living through illusions of his father (whom actually is dead), was a crazy twist, as if the earlier reveal of the fake Mr. Robot being his father wasn’t enough. Consistent character development was a key part of Mr. Robot, and with so many reveals & events I’m hoping this with season two going forward.

THE BAD: Some viewers may not appreciate the heavy tech concept, which is really the only drawback.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: While the series concept might not appeal to some, Mr. Robt’s grand writing, cast performance and story are enough to satisfy even the most hardened tech plot critics. Full of drama, twists, and character development, Mr. Robot satisfies in pretty much every form imaginable. Having a second season confirmed prior to it’s televised debut, Mr. Robot could help shape USA & it’s future IP into competition for the likes of AMC and other top networks. Otaku Dome gives Mr. Robot season 1 an 91 out of 100.
