A broken Murdock must rise from the ashes and return to his role as the “Man with No Fear” to take down an increasingly powerful Kingpin.

Marvel’s Daredevil is a 2015 superhero series it is produced by Marvel Television, ABC Studios, and distributed by Netflix. Season 3 is currently available now in it’s entirety.

Editor’s Note: This review contains near complete to complete spoilers for Daredevil Season 3 and potential spoilers for Daredevil comic story “Born Again”.

The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’s suffering has only begun in season 3.

Bringing the famous “Born Again” storyline from the comics to screen, Matt Murdock has awoken from his injury induced sleep at the end of The Defenders and has begun to lose faith in his religion. Wilson Fisk is inching closer and closer to being released from prison and with that he gains a surge of power from within the law. Meanwhile someone has taken the Daredevil suit and is giving the hero’s name a bad rep.

Vincent D’Onofrio once again shines as Kingpin.

THE GOOD: Following the ending scene of limited series The Defenders, Matt Murdock has survived his near brink of death and is recovering from heavy injuries. During this time period he reflects and decides to ditch religion. With Karen & Foggy both believing he’s dead they try to move on with their lives, though Karen is having a tough time doing so. Kingpin is currently in prison, but after working out a deal with the FBI he has begun to enjoy luxury while incarcerated, while also taking down his competition unbeknownst to FBI agent Nadeem whose been working on the Kingpin case and pushing for use of his intel. A mentally unstable FBI agent named Benjamin Poindexter has slowly began to lose his sanity and Kingpin has been getting inside his head. This eventually leads to a complete takeover of the FBI from within for Kingpin thanks to Poindexter’s aide.

Daredevil’s Bullseye with Wilson Fisk.

Performances from all the key players were phenomenal and fight choreography is always displayed at a high level as usual in Daredevil. While not an exact mirror replica of the Born Again arc, season 3 does capture a number of its highlights such as the identity of Matt’s mother, his loss of faith in religion, and even Karen’s drug addiction. While this is never shown from present day it is showcased through the use of flashbacks detailing that this version of Karen had a past addiction to drugs and has since gotten clean (as far as we know). An ample amount of screen time is given to the many leads featured in season 3 and no one feels too left out or underdeveloped throughout the season’s run.

Fight choreography remains some of the best seen for Marvel TV in Daredevil season 3.

THE BAD: The season starts off with a very slow burn, but picks up rather quickly.

Bullseye as the fake Daredevil.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Though it’s released was slowed down by The Defenders (according to Netflix) the agonizing wait was more than worth it in the end. Season 3 does a beautiful near exact reenactment of the famous Born Again storyline albeit with some re-imagining and even lays down some groundwork for potential future adaptations should the Disney/FOX buyout complete. Otaku Dome gives Daredevil Season 3 an 86 out of 100.
