HBO’s filmed specials based on the hit comedy podcast 2 Dope Queens will be available for Digital Download on March 19th!
Taped before a live audience at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, the show features the fun, fearless queens Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson dishing on Cocoa Khaleesis, dating white baes, sex, New York living, which borough has the best pizza and so much more.
Written by Jessica Williams, Phoebe Robinson, and Amy Aniobi, and directed by Tig Notaro the show offers an array of “visuals [that] push the already-beloved Queens to an entirely new level.” (Refinery 29) Jon Stewart, Sarah Jessica Parker, Uzo Aduba and Titus Burgess, make guest appearances, as well as a roster of established and up-and-coming comics.
2 Dope Queens is executive produced by Jessica Williams, Phoebe Robinson, Amy Aniobi, Carrie Byalick, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen Turner, David Martin and Chenoa Estrada; executive producers for A24 include Ravi Nandan and John Hodges.
RELLIK, a six-part limited series told in reverse, debuts FRIDAY, APRIL 13 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on CINEMAX. Richard Dormer (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) stars as Gabriel Markham, a relentless U.K. police detective bent on tracking down the serial killer who left him physically and emotionally scarred after an acid attack.
Unlike most murder mysteries, RELLIK turns the familiar serial murderer story on its head and begins with the apprehension and death of the presumed killer. Over six hour-long episodes, Gabriel and his team’s pursuit of the suspected murderer reveals the causes of the characters’ actions, as well as the events that push them to the brink.
RELLIK also stars Jodi Balfour (CINEMAX’s “Quarry”; “The Crown”) as Elaine, newly transferred to the team, who shares a special relationship with Gabriel. In addition, the show features: Patterson Joseph (HBO’s “The Leftovers”) as Isaac, a suspicious psychiatrist who may be hiding darker depths to his own psyche; Ray Stevenson (HBO’s “Rome”) as Benton, a bullish police chief with his own secrets; and Paul Rhys (“Victoria”) as Patrick, a two-faced businessman with a deeply troubling family life.
LOS ANGELES, March 14, 2018 – With production underway in Caserta, Italy, the first official images from the HBO, RAI FICTION and TIMVISION series MY BRILLIANT FRIEND have been released. Based on Elena Ferrante’s bestselling book of the same name, which is the first of her four-part series published in the U.S. by Europa Editions, the eight-episode series is being directed by Saverio Costanzo (“Private,” “The Solitude of Prime Numbers,” “Hungry Hearts”).
Casting for the show took place over a period of eight months, with almost 9,000 children and 500 adults from all over Campania auditioning. The casting process included professional and non-professional actors, as well as students recruited from local schools. Newcomers Elisa Del Genio and Ludovica Nasti were chosen to portray the two lead roles of Elena and Lila as young children.
As production on the series progresses, these young actresses have given way to teenage actresses Margherita Mazzucco as Elena and Gaia Girace as Lila. In total, MY BRILLIANT FRIEND is expected to include a cast of more than 150 actors and 5,000 extras.
The production’s construction team of 150 crew members has created 215,000 square feet of sets, which were built over 100 days. To recreate the neighborhood, the symbolic location of the story, they built 14 exterior apartment buildings, five interior sets of apartments, a church and a tunnel. The costume department is gathering 1,500 costumes, many of which are original creations.
MY BRILLIANT FRIEND is an HBO, RAI FICTION and TIMVISION series, produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani for Wildside and by Domenico Procacci for Fandango in co-production with Umedia Production. All episodes will be directed by Saverio Costanzo. Story and screenplays by Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci and Saverio Costanzo. Jennifer Schuur is the executive producer. When the most important friend in her life seems to have disappeared without a trace, Elena Greco, a now-elderly woman immersed in a house full of books, turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their friendship.
