The Fairy Tail guild is taking a break from the filler and is back with the canon with the start of the Magical Games arc. Natsu and crew face off against a number of guilds across Fiore in a battle to regain the respect they lost after the time skip. Along the way they run into some trouble with a dark guild and two new Dragon Slayers.

Fairy Tail is an 2009 Shounen anime series, it is produced by A-1 Pictures and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and streaming services across the internet.

After the rather lackluster Key to the Starry Heavens filler arc from Part 13, Part 14 continues to adapt the series’ canon with the Magical Games arc. While the slow start will take awhile to get through, the final moments of the first half of the Magical Games arc brings us back to the great action and comedy Fairy Tail is known for.

THE GOOD: Fairy Tail gets back to busy from the start of the arc, of course there’s some silliness in between, such as the group partying with the Celestial Spirits, and inadvertently wasting the time period they had to train, while still finding a solid alternative. However, once that gets out of the way and the Magical Games start, the group get down to business, and it’s fun seeing Laxus be a team player now.

THE BAD: While it’s understandable considering the guild is trying to win back the respect it once had, the Fairy Tail guild seems a bit over powered at this point compared to the other guilds. And there being a Team A and Team B of Fairy Tail doesn’t exactly help remedy that feeling.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Back to it’s roots and far more enjoyable than the previous filler arc, the Magical Games begins with a fantastic, albeit slow start. Laxus being a total team player now is good, and the action and comedy are back with a force. But you can’t help but feel that the Fairy Tail guild is a bit over powered in the latter half of the games, hopefully Part 15 fixes this issue. Otaku Dome gives Fairy Tail Part 14 an 8o out of 100.
