Cartoon Network Launches Television’s First-Ever Virtual Reality Game

Adventure Time: Magic Man’s Head Games Immerses Fans in the Land of Ooo, Builds on Network’s Multiplatform Strategy

Cartoon Network announced today the launch of the first-ever virtual reality game based on a television franchise, Adventure Time: Magic Man’s Head Games. Based on the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning, global hit series Adventure Time, this first-of-its-kind game builds on Cartoon Network’s dominance in the mobile games space, and furthers the network’s mission to deliver innovative content and experiences to its fans in unique and immersive ways.

“Core to Cartoon Network’s strategy is our commitment to innovate and expand our content offerings and distribution platforms so that fans can immerse themselves in our brands and characters however and whenever they choose,” said Christina Miller, President and GM, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang. “This first-to-market virtual reality game joins a roster of other industry-leading apps and digital experiences that have made Cartoon Network the first-choice for plurals looking for highly-engaging games and new content experiences.”

The stellar visual quality of the game allows fans to experience Adventure Time in a whole new way by becoming part of the narrative. The original story is fully voiced by the cast of the television series.  The gameplay is inspired by classic 3D platformers, while having unique combat and movement mechanics that take advantage of the very best VR technology.

Adventure Time mobile games have ranked as #1 Top Apps in the App Store and account for more than 17.5 million total downloads to-date. With premiere episodes averaging 2.4 million viewers each telecast in 2015, the Emmy® award-winning original animated series has received numerous entertainment award citations over the years.  The series’ distinctions include the prestigious Peabody and BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards. Recently, the series was nominated for its sixth Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Short-format Animated Program. The series has also received two nominations for a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Animated Series (2014 and 2013) and a Television Critics Association Awards nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming (2013).  “Thank You” a film by the Adventure Time team and Cartoon Network Studios was accepted into 2013 Sundance Film Festival Shorts Film Program.
