Boruto’s mission to the Hidden Mist comes to a close.

In the first true filler arc of the Boruto anime Boruto and his friends are sent to the Hidden Mist Village in what’s supposed to be nothing more than a tour of the village. But, after an internal conflict within the village arises Boruto and the Leaf Village shinobi are forced to act. Boruto befriends a local named Kagura Karatachi, though everything about the ninja isn’t as it seems. In the post-arc it’s final exams time and Boruto & Sarada begin to question their future as ninja this leads Kakashi to challenge their resolves.

THE GOOD: Boruto, Kagura, and the others are placed at the center of an inner conflict within the Hidden Mist Village. And Kagura reveals he’s the grandson of the fourth Mizukage. He fears using his unique sword because it raised a blood lust which caused him to kill several of his classmates. Having decided to become a Seven Ninja Swordsman of the Mist, Kagura practices with the Hiramekarei sword. Boruto arrives to congratulate Kagura and wish him luck, but they are soon captured. This turns out to be Shizuma who plans on using Boruto’s murder as an act of war. Kagura attempts to protest, but Shizuma reminds him of their past together. Kagura agrees to join Shizuma if Boruto is sparred to which the former agrees. They leave as Sarada greets Boruto who fainted from his earlier injuries. She mentions that Hachiya informed her of the situation, whom Boruto questions about Kagura & Shizuma’s relationship. Hachiya tells him the truth & Sarada plans to tell the teachers, but Boruto stops her as he wants to save Kagura. After convincing Chojuro to help he, Boruto, and Sarada face off against Shizuma and his gang. Elsewhere Mitsuki confronts Suigetsu who arrived in the Hidden Mist, he warns Mitsuki to not let Boruto know his past before they part. Boruto manages to remind Kagura of who he really is and they, Chojuro, and the other Leaf ninja defeat Shizuma and his group.

Fun cameos from original Naruto characters holds the Kagura arc together.

Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki prepare for the graduation exams but question their futures as ninja. Boruto gets a perfect score on a written test and Kakashi decides to give him his own test. Sarada, Mitsuki, and their friends  face off against their parents in combat as Kakashi faces Boruto. Everyone saves Boruto from Kakashi and work on a plan. Kakashi had earlier challenged Boruto to take the bell from him like he had with his & Sarada’s parents. After trapping him in a barrier Boruto successfully retrieves the bell with help from his friends. Some solid action and character development is present within these episodes, but it unfortunately is nothing too special minus the exam arc.

Mitsuki starts the beginning of his arc here.

THE BAD: This is the start of a long rather boring filler period for Boruto, bu at the very least the Kagura arc is entertaining.

Boruto relies on throwbacks for a somewhat entertaining couple of arcs.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: With two arcs closing Boruto at the moment is currently at its best with the solid Ninja Academy material. If you haven’t started the anime yet though, get ready for nearly a year of filler anime onlys. Otaku Dome gives Boruto Set 3 Blu-Ray a 70 out 100.
