Kenny Ackerman makes his long-awaited anime debut in AOT season 3.

A year after a stellar second season, Attack on Titan returns with it’s junior season this time tackling the Uprising arc. Featuring the epic debut of Kenny the Ripper, season three has Levi, Mikasa, Armin, and the rest dealing with human enemies for the first time since joining the Survey Corps. Having been experienced with killing mindless Titans, most of the group must deal with new struggles as the fight for survival continues to take its toll.

Wit Studio is back to putting in work with Attack on Titan Season 3.

THE GOOD:  Episode 1 almost immediately tells us where the story is headed and who the big bad of the current arc is. Kenny the Ripper is quickly established as an enemy Eren, Levi & co. have never faced before as a skilled human enemy. The lack of Titans coming after the Beast Titan reveal is an odd, but welcomed change of things to the story and the human enemies more than make up for the roles to fuel the necessary drama. Armin taking his first kill to protect Jean will be an interesting character development moving forward. As the more docile of the trio between himself, Eren, and Mikasa he instantly feels the effects of taking a human life, even if it was a comrade of Kenny’s group who were fairly ruthless, but the woman he shot herself hesitating to kill Jean, knowing he wasn’t a skilled fighter provided Armin an idea of her character and it may lead to even tougher choices as the arc goes on. The developments of Historia potentially moving on from Ymir against her will as she begins the process of taking the crown

Season 3 takes the drama of Attack on Titan to new levels.

THE BAD: Episode one is sort of fast paced and everything comes flying at you at once. The human enemy direction won’t be to everyone’s liking obviously, but the Titans will be back in no time.

Heavy character developments are presented early in episodes 1 & 2.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Attack on Titan’s third season is only two episodes in and it’s already off to a powerful start. Emotionally drama and action-packed scenery has give a great opening act to the anime adaptation of the Uprising arc and it can only get better from here. Otaku Dome gives Attack on Titan Season 3 Episode 1 a 90 out 100 and Episode 2 a 95 out of 100.
