The epic season finale to Telltale’s newly adored The Wolf Among Us “Cry Wolf” has come to consoles, handhelds, and PC. It’s the end of the road for the Big Bad Wolf’s current tale as we await the long wait for his next grand adventure.

WARNING: The following review contains complete to near complete spoilers for “Cry Wolf”, if you have not yet played the finale to The Wolf Among Us season one, then this review may spoiler the episode and ending for you. You have been warned.

The end is nigh for Bigby Wolf and friends. The final conclusion to the epic pilot season of TellTale’s latest epic. In this episode Bigby takes on Femme Bad Ass Bloody Mary, while also giving chase to Georgie and stopping The Crooked Man one way or another. Thought Cry Wolf doesn’t necessarily set the tone for the possible second season like The Walking Dead did, it was well written enough to give us some complete closure should TellTale decide to not develop a second story for Fable Town’s Sheriff.

Cry Wolf indeed.

THE GOOD: In Cry Wolf we got a lot of fantastic moments, including our first full glimpse of Bigby in wolf form, as well as our first look of his true form. The final showdown between Bloody Mary and Bigby also came to be, alongside most of the members of Fable Town finally giving Sheriff Bigby the respect that he deserved. Meanwhile, Snow White became sort of the replacement for The Crooked Man as far as taken a bit of a vileness. Though this was mostly due to the members of Fable Town reacting to previous decisions she had made in the past more than any direct actions from Snow herself.

Some of the choices were pretty intense such as choosing to either kill The Crooked Man or locking him. Then there was the heartbreaking scene between Bigby and the Toads. I’d imagine Toad will have some sort of involvement with the next season due to the “Toad will remember that” line after the entire ordeal was done. Annoyingly enough, Connor seemed to have gained a bit of arrogance if players chose to have him avoid being sent to the farm. Overall the writing Cry Wolf has been the most superior since episode one. Gameplay remained the same pretty much.

THE BAD: The final showdown with Bloody Mary could have been a bit better, and considering how she had been shown in previous episodes this was a tad disappointing. I suppose the lack of a true season two tease might annoy some as well.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: TellTale really knocked it out of the park with The Wolf Among Us’ five episode season. With all the twist and turns featuring in the new title, it helped breath new life into their point and click series of games. Bloody Mary was perhaps one of the greatest villains in gaming from this year, and the overall story and pacing for the game was fantastically done. I still think the final showdown between Mary and Bigby could have been a bit more dramatic, but this is more of a person pet peeve.
