Destiny’s latest expansion looks to change the game with the new Rise of Iron downloadable content. New bosses, enemies, raids, gear, and weaponry bring players back for another run in Bundie’s post-Halo MMO shooter. In Rise of Iron players find themselves one year after the events of The Taken King being trained by Lord Saladin; one of the three Iron Lords who sacrificed themselves to defeat the SIVA virus, having been the only survivor, Lord Saladin trains Guardians in hopes of being ready for SIVA’s likely return.

In what may be the final Destiny expansion before the full fledged sequel, Destiny: Rise of Iron gives players something to do for one more year. With new planets to visit and a brand new story to explore Destiny: Rise of Iron will give players many more hours to bond and enjoy before the sequel.

THE GOOD: Rise of Iron breathes new life into Destiny after coming off the heels of the fantastic Taken King DLC released late last year. The new gear and weaponry increases the challenge of the game, while the new storyline provides a much needed reason to give the game another run, if even to kill a bit of time here and there if you can’t fully commit like before.

Destiny lacks some excitement compared to Rise of Iron.

THE BAD: While the new story brings players back to the game, the characters involved feel completely uninspired compared to previous expansions and even the base bare bones version of Destiny. This is rather annoying for what could very well be the final set of content.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: While Destiny: Rise of Iron welcomes us back to the world, it feels somewhat lacking, especially coming after the excellent Taken King, and even in some fashion the base game. The new loot, gear, and all is really fun to look at and use, but the story is admittedly a disappointing last hurrah for Destiny 1 due to a lack of interest from all of the key characters presented within it.
