In 2003 the Disney channel launched a comedy series known as That’s So Raven which starred Raven-Symone as titular lead character Raven Baxter, Kyle Massey as brother Corey,  Orlando Brown & Anneliese van der Pol starred as best friends Eddie & Chelsea respectively, and T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh & Rondell Sheridan portrayed Tanya & Victor Baxter respectively. The series ended up becoming a cult hit for Disney during it’s heyday of live-action comedies during the early 2000s, and a spinoff sequel entitled Corey in the House with Kyle Massey reprising his role as the titular lead, and Rondell Sheridan starring once again as Victor Baxter. Now a full on sequel has materialized in Raven’s Home which has Raven-Symone again portraying Raven Baxter as the titular lead, only this time she (and Pol reprising her role as Chelsea) are divorced mothers sharing a home together. While Raven is still the lead, the new series does a very solid job of showcasing that the kids are the true stars of the show, which may make it counter productive to it’s nostalgia audience.

Raven’s Home is a 2017 comedy sequel series to That’s So Raven & Corey in the House, it is produced by It’s a Laugh Productions, and airs on the Disney Channel, having it’s premiere on July 21, 2017.

Having gone through multiple seasons across two series, the That’s So Raven franchise once again made headlines when star Raven-Symone announced her attentions to create a second, though more direct sequel spin-off. The series Raven’s Home acts as a continuation of Raven Baxter and best friend Chelsea’s story from the original series, as two divorced mothers living together and raising their children, Booker, Nia, and Levi (respectively) under one roof. However Raven’s son Booker has inherited her psychic powers.

THE GOOD: Fans will be happy to know that Raven’s Home is once again filmed in front of a live audience, so no laugh track (thankfully). Symone & Pol’s trademark sync from the original series is back, which is rather impressive given how long it’s been since the two shared a spot on TV together. Child actors Issac Ryan Brown, Navia Robinson, and Jason Maybaum, who portray Booker & Nia Baxter, and Levi play their roles well enough to keep viewers entertained.

Raven’s Home will attempt to please both the original audience, as well as the newer generation. Will it succeed?

THE BAD: While the name and returning characters give the idea that this is a very nostalgia heavy series, the pilot is more focused on the kids rather than Raven and Chelsea, this might alienate the fans of the original if they can’t keep the focus on the original and new characters balanced.

Can’t keep a good psychic down.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Raven’s Home is a solid first step into the continuation of the That’s So Raven franchise, character building is fine enough, and the use of a studio audience one again over a laugh track is welcoming. The writers should be clearer of who the show is for though, as they could risk alienating long-time fans of the franchise. Otaku Dome gives Raven’s Home a 80 out of 100.
