Keanu Reeves returns as the titular character in the sequel to 2014’s action epic John Wick; John Wick Chapter 2. Beginning almost immediately from where the first film left off Wick has gotten revenge for the murder of his dog, the only reminder left behind of his deceased wife, and has taken back his car (albeit extremely damaged). Now Wick is looking to continue life as a true retiree, however when an old friend is back to ask for an owed favor, Wick is forced back into the life of an assassin.

John Wick Chapter 2 is the 2017 sequel to action film John Wick, it is produced by Thunder Road Pictures & Lionsgate, and distributed by Summit Entertainment. It is currently available on Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray.

John Wick Chapter 2 marks the return of a new acclaimed universe within the otherwise dull, over saturated action genre. After getting revenge for the loss of the only remaining memoir of his deceased wife, Wick is looking to return to retirement. However, when a friend asks him to assassinate his sister due to an owed favor, Wick must return the life of an assassin much to his dismay.

John Wick Chapter 2 pulls no punches when it comes to who’s life is on the line.

THE GOOD: If John Wick was a horror film, then there’d be no safe zone for fan favorite characters in Chapter 2. There’s a TON of death in the sequel and at times it kind of keeps you guessing as to who’s going to be next on Wick’s hit list. However, unlike most sequels of the genre John Wick Chapter 2 is competent with its writing and story, and it goes for quality over quantity. Reeves is definitely going to be seen as a modern action film star in the likes of Stallone, and such but with a much more critically impressive film repertoire thanks to the Wick franchise. His co-stars feel extremely relevant to the story even with the lack of screen time for some.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: John Wick Chapter 2 is not only one of the most competent action sequels you’ll ever see, but one of the most competent sequels you’ll ever see period. With a stellar cast, perfect action sequences, and an engaging story, with a damn good sequel set up, John Wick’s second outing is one of the best action films you’ll ever see. Otaku Dome gives John Wick: Chapter 2 Blu-Ray a 90 out of 100.
