Otaku Dome had the opportunity to speak with Robot Chicken Co-Creator Matthew Senreich over the upcoming seventh season premiere a few weeks ago in a quick Q & A interview. We also talk the show’s history, it’s sudden rise in popularity, Matt’s short lived Titan Maximum, and more:

Editor’s Note: The interview unfortunately wasn’t word for word, as my recording device was acting up, so most of this is going on memory and edits. Apologizes in advanced.

1. First of all thanks for the interview opportunity Matt. Second can you tell us a bit about how Robot Chicken came about?

Matt: It was one of those things where I was friends with Seth and we were doing an interview with Conan O Brien he asked if I wanted to do something with him and he said he made something and showed me this action figure he made, then we did a few webisodes and got on Adult Swim sometime after.

2. You, Seth, and the rest of the team have been doing this since about 2005, did you ever expect a show about adults, essentially playing with toys would be as huge as Robot Chicken has become?

Matt: Never, we started this as a side job, I was working in comic books and Seth was an actor and we had to sort of re-evaluate our careers.

3. While Robot Chicken usually features licensed characters in various scenarios, it also has it’s own slew of original characters such as Bitch Puddin’, and the Nerd. How did these characters did you develop them?

Matt: It’s really up to the fans when it comes to these characters. Like the Gummi Bear character, we never really expected it to go anywhere, it was originally created by a member of the team, and sort of took off from there.

4. Your specials such as the Star Wars & DC Comics have received a lot of positive responses from fans of not only the show, but the properties as well, even critics have praised them highly. How did you go about developing these? Are there any other specials you have planned?

Matt: They really came to us after the first Star Wars sketch we did, and then it sort of became a thing. We’re always open to doing more and something different.

5. Can you give us some insight on what to expect in season 7?

Matt: That’s a bit of an overwhelming question, we have a lot of good stuff coming up with Skeletor and other characters. We also have a ton of great guest stars in this season that did some episodes.

6. In 2009 you created a TV series called Titan Maximum. Unfortunately, it only lasted one season, even though rumors had suggested that a second was ordered. Is there a chance that the adventures of Palmer & crew could return one day? Would it be possible to transition these characters into Robot Chicken? From what I’ve seen the demand for more Titan Maximum is still there even after nearly 6 years since it’s cancellation.

Matt: There’s always a possibility, it’s just that with Robot Chicken we’re doing this show 14 months out of the year, but never say never. Matt on Transitioning TM to Robot Chicken: That’s not a bad idea actually. I never really thought about doing it before, may have to use that.

7. Do you have any other non-Robot Chicken projects in the works that you’d like to discuss?

Matt: Well, yes actually, but I can’t really talk about them at the moment unfortunately.
