The first six episodes of Gotham have shown an consistently great amount of pacing, character development, and drama. When word got out that WB was planning a Batman prequel rather than an actual series based on the Dark Knight, people were skeptical, and even more so when it was revealed that Commissioner James Gordon and a pre-teen Bruce Wayne would be the leads of the series. However, after six episodes Gotham has proven that a live-action Batman program can indeed work.

When it was revealed that Gotham, a prequel Batman series focusing on Commissioner Jim Gordon & an pre-teen Bruce Wayne a lot of eyebrows was raised and rightfully so. Ever since Smallville fans have been begging for another live action series starring the Dark Knight. However, for what it is Gotham has done an fantastic job paying tribute to the Batman universe, with the origin tales of Bruce Wayne, Penguin, Poison Ivy, and other key characters from the rogue gallery, as well as the surprising performance of original character Fish Mooney played by Jada Pinkett Smith, the series shines as a pre-Batman series.
THE GOOD: The drama & action featured in Gotham feels like a genuine piece of the Batman universe. Actor performances have been absolutely stellar thus far including Jada Pinkett Smith as original character Fish Mooney and Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin. The gritty drama also added an genuine feeling that this is indeed a Batman series.
THE BAD: The B story can feel a little off from time to time, and the use of Bruce Wayne could be extended upon a bit more, but given that this is the early start of the 22 episode first season, anything can happen between now and the season finale.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: True to the universe it represents, Gotham is an genuine artifact into the Batman world. Full of great action, drama, and amazing performances from the characters respective actors, Gotham is a serie that will keep you plugged in. However, the B story can feel weak here and there, and more focus on Bruce Wayne wouldn’t hurt. Otaku Dome gives Gotham, the first six episodes an overall score of 90 out of 100.
