The anime adaptation of the original Dragon Ball manga comes to an end in Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters Part 3. In the engaging finale to the anime Goku, Vegeta, Hercule, and Majin Buu (good), struggle against the final battle against the destructive force of Kid Buu, who’s evil is literally reaching the stars themselves. Vegeta, Hercule, and Majin Buu aid Goku in one last ditch effort to defeat the monster once and for all.

Dragon Ball Z Kai is a 2009 anime remake of Dragon Ball Z, it is produced by Toei Animation, and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.

The monstrous Kid Buu.

It’s the final stretch for Dragon Ball Z Kai, Kid Buu has been reborn with more destructive power than ever. The Earth’s last hopes are in the hands of Goku, Vegeta, Majin Buu, and Hercule (yes Hercule). With not only Earth, but the entire universe at stack, the group must hold out for their final plan of attack, a mighty Spirit Bomb powerful enough to end the evil Majin’s reign of terror once and for all.

THE GOOD: The final episodes of Dragon Ball Z come filler free in the last set for Kai. Goku, Vegeta, and Majin Buu (with Hercule), are the last remaining Z fighters who stand even an iota of a chance against the all powerful Kid Buu. The action packed heavy set follows Goku and Vegeta’s struggles against Buu as Goku prepares a Spirit Bomb. The Kid Buu arc is perhaps most notable for its fantastic development of Vegeta, who effectively admits defeat in his quest to best Goku in one on one combat. Vegeta, a character who was well loved for his pride (which often got the better of him), admitting that Goku was the superior warrior after trying to stall for time against Buu who was just body bagging the Saiyan Prince, was really heartbreaking to see. The Dragon Ball story comes to a satisfying close as the series reach its end with a ten year gap. The more annoying voice actor/actress replacements for Kai are mostly ignored here, which is good as they’re very hard to get used to.

Vegeta sacrifices himself to help Goku stall for time against Kid Buu.

THE BAD: Nothing in particular.

Kid Buu’s defeat.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: The final Blu-Ray set for Dragon Ball Z Kai is perhaps the best one to date, a no filler, no nonsense collection with some of the greatest (Vegeta focused) episodes from the series. A ton of action and a grand finale to the original Dragon Ball manga series, makes this set one to add to the collection. Otaku Dome gives Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters Part 3 a 87 out of 100.
