Dante and Nero’s story continues in the fifth canonical installment of Devil May Cry. Once again taking the lead of Nero, the young half-demon has opened his own demon hunting agency which he takes on the road in a van with his trusted companion Nico. Nero’s Devil bringer has been stolen and he’s looking for a way to get it back.

Devil May Cry V is an upcoming 2019 action-adventure, hack n’ slash game, it is developed and published by Capcom. It will release on March 8, 2019 for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. A public demo is currently available exclusively on Xbox One.

Nero takes center stage for the second time in Devil May Cry V.

Taking place several years after Devil May Cry 2, Dante and Nero have continued their growing bond with the opening his own demon hunting agency, obviously inspired by the former. Nero who is now much older, experienced, and slightly more mature is on the hunt for a mysterious man who has stolen his Devil Bringer. Luckily, however, his engineer and friend Nico has built him a suitable replacement in the form of a powerful prosthetic arm known as the Devil Breaker.

Meet Nero’s sidekick Nico.

THE GOOD: Devil May Cry V continues Nero’s story as a follow-up to Devil May Cry 2. Nero is now starting out as a professional demon hunter himself with Dante’s blessing. More powerful demons have risen to Earth’s surface and are causing turmoil & destruction within their wake, but Nero has had his Devil Bringer arm taken from him. Now forced to use a substitute called the Devil Breaker along with his Red Queen sword, Nero must team up with Dante, Trish, Lady, and new ally V to take back his Devil Bringer and stop the new evil.

Nero’s new Devil Breaker may be the game changer the series needs.

The new Devil Breaker weapon acts as more than just something extra to bash demon heads in. Nero can also use it for strategy and travel. To give an example there’s multiple Devil Breaker styles which players can take advantage of by breaking out huge groups of enemies or making quick escapes from a powerful attack. You can even unleash your own powerful explosive like attacks to do heavy damage on enemies. There’s been some tweaking to enemy AI as well, which is a bit of a problem I’ve personally had with the Devil May Cry series. There were times when it just felt way too easy outside of a few odd ball bosses here and there. However, I’ve died a couple of times on the boss fought in the demo and it’s a nice change of things if this is how it is for the final build of the game.

High intensity action & rockin’ music returns in Devil May Cry V.

THE BAD: The Devil Breaker mechanic will take some getting used to, and even seasoned players who haven’t slayed demons in quite some time will need some practice to get back into the groove of things. Lower level enemies need to be bumped up a bit more in AI. Upgrades & customization were turned off during the demo which was unfortunate. No gameplay of Dante or V is a downer.

Devil May Cry V is the series return to form fans have been waiting for.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: While the demo doesn’t give us too much to toy around with what is present is a feel good Devil May Cry experience and in most fans’ eyes that’s more than enough to be satisfied.
