Spread the love

Well would ya look at that? Another month in 2021 another wildly unlikely rumored and leaked game is officially confirmed. Seriously, 2020 & 2021 have been some of the most accurate years of the rumor mill for gaming ever and I love seeing it. On this episode of “unlikely game rumor made fact” we have a Super Smash Bros. inspired titled this time focusing on the near infinite vault of Warner Bros. IP. In this new fighter set for release in 2022 it features a literal time capsule of classic and modern Warner properties beating the cartoony piss out of each. There’s a bit of a twist here with the title appropriately named Multiversus. It appears (at least in the initial trailer) that gameplay is focused on team-based mechanics. That’s something that’s rather unique for platform fighters.

Yes, fighting game have historically had options team and co-op based gameplay, but Multiversus really puts emphasis on it. You can provide genuine support for your team mate like creating a shield to protect them from your opponent or even tag teaming them together. Another thing about Multiversus that stands out is that every character will be voiced with some key voice actors portraying characters such as Kevin Conroy as Batman & Tara Strong as Harley Quinn. So far the confirmed roster is as followed: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn (DC Comics), Finn & Jake (Adventure Time), Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes), Tom & Jerry (Tom & Jerry), Steven Universe & Garnet (Steven Universe), Shaggy (Scooby-Doo), Arya Stark (Game of Thrones), and what appears to be an original character in Reindog.

The currently confirmed roster for Multiversus.

It also appears that WBIE will be embracing meme culture with Multiversus as Shaggy will be based off of the Dragon Ball x Scooby-Doo mash-up meme of Ultra Instinct Shaggy. If this is more than a fun one off there’s legit an endless amount of possibilities for play styles with characters as more get released over time. Personally, I think Shaggy is an experiment to test just that possibility. And just by the more than positive reception his reveal received WB may want to go all in with featuring more memes based on their characters if it makes sense for the game. Multiversus is developed by Player First Games and is published by WB Interactive Entertainment with a 2022 launch set for PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
