Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is an 2015 comedy series created by Tina Fey and starring Jane Krakowski & Ellie Kemper, it is produced by Little Stranger, Inc. & Bevel Gears, it currently airs on Netflix as an original.
I first heard of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt through word of mouth through friends, and having always been a Tina Fey fan, I gained even further interest when I found out that she was involved with the series. Starring Jane Krakowski and Ellie Kemper, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt works well satirizing shut ins readjusting to society without being too offensive, and is genuinely hilarious throughout it’s run.
THE GOOD: One of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s strongest elements is the character growth for many of the main and recurring characters. From Kimmy learning how to be normal, to Mrs. White learning how to adjust to being “broke”, these characters go through severe changes upon their initial introductions. A lot of the jokes in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are also pretty hilarious, such as Kimmy swearing after getting angry, having previously avoiding the use of bad language with odd alternative words.
THE BAD: Season two somewhat suffers a bit while attempting to revisit Kimmy and her bunker sisters’ readjustment to society. It feels like some moments were reduxed at times.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: With an extremely strong cast of actors, great character growth, and some funny jokes, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is definitely the strongest Netflix original comedy airing right now. Season two has some redux issues, but the overall quality of the series makes these more than a nuisance at best. Otaku Dome gives Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season one an 90 out of 100 and season two an 86.
