We’re back for our second round of beta impressions in ‘Ghost Recon Breakpoint’. As our continued coverage of the five day beta goes on I’ll be detailing loot, side missions, enemy camps, and other ins and outs that I experienced during the third and fourth days of the beta. I’ll also be reporting back some character class skills I toyed around with.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a 2019 online shooter game, it is developed and published by Ubisoft. It will release on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One on October 4, 2019. A beta is currently available now until September 9, 2019.

Editor’s Note: Beta codes for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint were provided by Ubisoft in support of this preview. The following coverage covers the third and fourth days of the five day beta.

Back into the horrors of war we go in our second bit of coverage on the ‘Ghost Recon Breakpoint’ beta. On the third day I spent most of my time exploring the world map and getting in some experience for leveling and skill points. It took me a minute to get used to the map, but when I got the hang of it, it was fairly easy to find where I needed to be for the missions I chose to do. Speaking of I did one mission where I needed to escort a VIP to a certain area specified on the map. Escort missions can be some of the worst in these types of games because you have no idea how A.I. of your companion will behave, how tough enemies are, etc. Admittedly, I died a few times here. Mostly through no fault of my own, but in one instance I accidentally killed the A. I. because the idiot companion literally walked into my line of fire. Needless to say, she didn’t make it hard for me to head shot her with a single bullet. This of course is an isolated incident and hopefully A.I. will be much more sound in the final game.

Experience betrayal and other war terrors in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

I’m not sure if I mentioned it in my previous coverage, but I also tested some of the vehicle controls including the helicopter, car, and motorbike. I normally hate controlling helicopters in video games (thanks GTA), but here it’s not so bad. For one thing it actually feels like you’re moving at a decent speed and I don’t feel like one ill timed bit of movement will turn the copter into a crashing fire ball. Car and motorbike controls were pretty tightly built and easy to move around with as well. I’m not sure if this is just for the beta, but the motorbike seemingly had some trouble going down the mountain terrains whereas it would get either get stiff to move or plain old stuck leading to death. I doubt this will be in the finalized version of the game, just something you don’t usually see with motorbike travel in sandbox games. I’m sure I actually did bring this up in the last article, but there is some main campaign content present in ‘Breakpoint’. I don’t think the opening segment will be the same in the final product (from my experience they normally aren’t), but as I stated before you start off with your created character version of Nomad, and again I’m not sure if Nomad being customizable as far as skin tone, face, etc will be in the final version, which is why I continue to bring it up. After creating your Nomad your job is to investigate your crash site and to search for any survivors.

‘Breakpoint’ is looking to be a promising sandbox shooter.

After finding the secret Ghost HQ located in the cave your new main mission is to find a way off the island. You come across a man and his daughter who you’re supposed to escort off the island, but it’s quickly learned that drones are blocked entry and escape. In addition to the fact that these very same drones were responsible for your own crash, you become aware of Walker’s betrayal. Unfortunately, this is where the campaign content comes to an end for the beta, though once it’s completed there’s plenty of side quests you can do from the hub world and you can also destroy enemy territories for powerful loot drops and some quick leveling up. For being a beta, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint looks very solid and has a ton of potential to look forward to with the full game. My final thoughts on the beta will focus on the overall presentation of the game, loot, and some other topics I may have missed in these last two articles. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be available for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One on October 4, 2019.
