For those new to Final Fantasy XV, the game was originally announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, yes this game began originally as the thirteenth main console game long before Square developed the Lightning saga, which would eventually go on to be known officially as the thirteenth main console game in the franchise.
Though details were scared we learned bits and pieces of information that would be released throughout the years, such as the main character being named Noctis, and very little of the story. Originally believed to be a possible launch title to the then launching Playstation 3, information on the new game would continue to be scarce. However after years of nothing to follow up what little we knew, the game was officially revived as Final Fantasy XV, the fifteenth main console title in the long running franchise during Square’s conference at E3 2013, a whopping seven years after it’s original announcement.
While fans who’ve waited the 10 year gap were excited for the grand re-announcement of Final Fantasy XV, the game was once again becoming worrisome for fans who were met with previous heartbreak and disappointment, especially once it was revealed that development on the game was moved from Playstation 3 to Playstation 4 & Xbox One (alongside fellow dormant title Kingdom Hearts 3). After the initial announcement came and went, we were once again met with a dry spell on information. And the worrying carried on to fans who still held out hope for the title. However, Square would surprise everyone by announcing that not only was development of XV moving along at a faster pace than expected, but that a demo would be coming to those who pre-order another upcoming Final Fantasy port, Type-0 HD.
With more information pouring out than ever on Final Fantasy XV after it’s 10 year journey, fans once again had hope, faith, and high expectations for the new title. Just a mere few days ago, director Hajime Tabata had announced that the current final release window for Final Fantasy XV was 2016, stating that the game would definite be ready before 2017. He would then follow up this news by stating that the game would be receiving a world wide release, a first in Final Fantasy franchise history for the main console titles. With this announcement, it seems quite clear that Square has high hopes and expectations for the title, possibly rivaling that of even the fans. Development is currently standing at 65% with only a year and 35 % to go before the game (hopefully) goes gold, the close to the long journey may finally be coming to an end, and I for one can’t wait for the end of this story to come to a close, and possibly open a door to new stories in the Versus world.
