Quentin Tarantino’s latest film making affair The Hateful Eight revolves around a group of characters with a seemingly intertwined destiny. Starring an ensemble cast of actors and actresses as an extremely rough and violent group of characters, the story goes from an straight forward looking Western into an whodunit.
The Hateful Eight is an 2015 Western film, it is produced by FilmColony, and distributed by The Weinstein Company. It is currently in theaters across America.
The Hateful Eight is Quentin Tarantino’s first film since his latest Django Unchained, which had quite a cast of it’s own. The Tarantino ensemble cast trend continues in The Hateful Eight which includes Tarantino regular Samuel L. Jackson, and other top stars in a crazy roller coaster ride of murder and mystery.
THE GOOD: From an fantastic OST, to an even more fantastic script, The Hateful Eight, is almost one-hundred percent excellent from start to finish. Tarantino’s trademarks such as the ultra gun violence and racial slurs are present, though they never take away from the film. In the case of the ultra gun violence, it actually adds to the intensity of the film during certain scenes. The twist from the middle act onward keeps audiences guessing, and the shock ending is something you won’t see coming even if you tried to guess.
THE BAD: There’s a few character flaws present within the movie, but the real issue is the run time. The Hateful Eight is of course an Tarantino film, so natural there’d be a bit of a run time, but The Hateful Eight has an almost 3 hour run time. In fact there actually is an over three hour version of the film, which will likely be present on the DVD and Blu-Ray release.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: If you’re a fan of westerns and whodunits, or a fan of Quentin Tarantino himself, then The Hateful Eight is right up your alley. Full of Tarantino’s usual shtick, and featuring a great cast and sound track, The Hateful Eight’s admittedly long run time will be worth it for movie goers in the long run. Otaku Dome gives The Hateful Eight an 93 out of 100.
