In an interview with Movies.com Kevin Feige shared some rather surprising news about the acclaimed The Avengers film. Apparently the original submission of the film saw an R rating coming back from the MPAA. Feige went on to state that the rating stayed during a second submission before making adjustments for PG-13 approval.
“Whenever you impale somebody from their back and the blade comes out their chest, there are issues,” he said chuckling.
The scene in question that gave the film it’s rating is the original cut of Agent Coulson’s death, which shows the character who is played by fan favorite Clark Greg getting impaled. In the final cut of the film the scene is hinted at, but only the sound of the impaling can be heard, followed by a quick cut to Thor being on screen.
