So Sony Pictures has finally given us our first real look at it’s first title into it’s own Marvel Cinematic Universe (yes this is a real thing in development), and it’s a film of fan-favorite anti-hero Venom. The titular character of Venom/Eddie Brock will be played by Tom Hardy that’s all well and good, but there’s one main problem with Venom’s first trailer take a look:

Notice anything odd about the trailer? There’s a very heavy lack of symbiote being shown off here. Granted this is just a teaser trailer and it’s always possible that upcoming trailers will feature more of Hardy in costume, but there’s a number of things worrying about this film. Mainly the fact that a teaser is supposed to tease a little bit of everything and we do get a glimpse of the symbiote in the teaser, but not Hardy in the get up. There’s also the issue with it’s timing Venom has been in development hell for well over a decade and when the project finally got underway last year filming was completed rather quickly having finished in October. Another issue is the reported budget of $50 Million, when you consider the average blockbuster superhero film has a budget of at least $100 Million that’s a bit worrying. It could also be that Sony is going for more of an origin approach with the character which could explain the lack of symbiote on display, but given how long people have asked for a Venom film that’s disheartening and the film is coming off as a bit rushed.
