Back in June of this year the world was marveling over the news (or lack thereof) surrounding Microsoft and Sony’s then-mysterious & unreleased Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5 consoles. As the details for the next-gen titans became less and less frequent KFC decided to get in on the fun by announced a food warmer/gaming console hybrid; the appropriately titled KFConsole. Only this was no game (pun intended) as KFC has apparently become serious about throwing it’s hat into the gaming space even creating a “KFC Gaming” brand to accompany the console.
As previously stated the KFConsole was “announced” back in June to coincide with the press surrounding Microsoft & Sony. It was thought to be intended as a joke until KFC once again introduced the console even going so far as to revealing the manufacturer of the console Taiwan’s Cooler Master as well as specs such as 4K 240ps, a 1TB hard drive, and even VR support & ray tracing. So what was thought to be just some fun ribbing is quickly looking like a legit reality. KFC has gone a bit out of their way for this to simply be an elaborate April Fools Day prank as some had suggested.
Is KFC really launching a gaming brand in partnership with Cooler Master? If so why? While it could be argued that the recent surge in gaming interest due to the COVID-19 pandemic may be the main reason, it honestly seems like KFC have been planning this for quite some time. For now the KFConsole is currently limited to a mini gaming PC, but it’s entirely possible that they could release an entire line of variating KFConsoles down the line if this is indeed real as KFC & Cool Master claims. With the parts placed inside the would be unit expect it to be rather pricey.
