Long-running video game franchise Senran Kagura gets its own anime adaptation in Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash. Taking a bit of an original story from the clothes stripping game series before it, Senran Kagura focuses on the five main female protagonist as they secretly train in ninja arts.
Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash is an 2013 anime adaption of the 2011 video game franchise of the same name, it is produced by Animation Studio Artland, and licensed by Funimation, it is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
After proving to become a rather surprising financial success for Marvelous Entertainment after it’s initial entry on the Nintendo 3DS, Senran Kaguran became a fan favorite for it’s comedy, main characters, and extremely ecchi content. In 2013 an anime adaption was launched due to the game’s moderate success,
THE GOOD: If you’re a fan of the 2011 video game and it’s multiple entries afterwards, then you’ll have no issue finding enjoying with the anime. The tone and characters are very much in sync with that of the game. You have about 12 episodes to work with, so if you’re just itching for more Senran Kagura content then the anime is a great appetizer until the next game entry.
THE BAD: If you’re not a fan of the video games, then this one may not be for you, however if you’re a general ecchi fan then it’s worth a run.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Senran Kagura’s anime adaption is fine for what it is, and holds the spirit of the games well enough to not be seen as a mere cash cow. It’s a short run at about 12 episodes and 6 ‘specials’, so you can kill it within an entire afternoon’s worth of your time. Otaku Dome gives Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash a 75 out of 100.
