Seasons one and two of ecchi, shounen series Sekirei comes in a new complete Blu-Ray set. In this ecchi, shounen anime series the story focuses on main character Minato Sahashi, a ronin who’s failed college exams twice, afterwards his life changes when he meets a girl named Musubi (and several other women afterwards, thus turning this into a harem).
Sekirei and Sekirei: Pure Engagement are seasons one and two of the anime/manga series Sekirei. It is produced by Seven Arcs, and licensed by Funimation, both seasons are currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD in English.
While I’m not really the ecchi type of anime fan, I’m always willing to give the genre a chance if the plot is decent enough, or if there’s some kind of incentive into giving it a try beyond the ecchi. Sekirei definitely holds some kind of interest with it’s respectable use of action and the like. Minato ends up becoming the Ashikabi of Musubi; an Sekirei. The job of the Ashikabi is to guide his Sekirei to victory in a tournament featuring 108 Sekirei.
THE GOOD: Sekirei/Sekirei Pure Engagement comes with both seasons of the Sekirei series on Blu-Ray and DVD, so there will be no issue getting through the series completely. The action is serious and enjoyable enough to watch, while the ecchi can distract, it’s not enough to “kill the mood” so to speak.
THE BAD: The ecchi is there, but as stated it doesn’t really distract too much.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Sekirei is an ecchi series with some true entertainment value. A decent story and some ok action, the ecchi isn’t half bad either. Otaku Dome gives Sekirei/Sekirei: Pure Engagement an 75 out of 100.
