The second half of Sailor Moon S hits Blu-Ray and DVD. In the home release of the classic anime series Sailor Moon and her magical girl companions face off against Eudial and her Daimons while protecting their pure hearts from them.
Sailor Moon is a 1992 shojo anime adaptation of the manga of the same name, it is produced by Toei Animation and licensed by Viz Media, it is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
Editor’s Note: Blu-Ray review copy of Sailor Moon S provided by Viz Media.
Sailor Moon and co are back in the second half of the third season for the acclaimed anime series. With Eudial sending Daimon after Daimon against the Sailors not only are their very lives at stake, but so are their identities.
THE GOOD: Part 2 of Sailor Moon S takes the usually light hearted tone of Sailor Moon to a much, much darker tone. While there’s still light-hearted, comedic moments the darker direction was a nice change of pace for the mostly cheery series. From deaths to pure hearts being stolen Sailor Moon S isn’t afraid to tug at the heartstrings.
THE BAD: Monster of the week format still gets fairly old and formulaic.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Though suffering from problematic monster of the week formula, Sailor Moon S Part 2’s new direction more than makes up for it. The core story and action continues to be some of the best in shojo anime to date and showcases Toei’s early work brilliantly. Otaku Dome gives Sailor Moon S Part 2 Blu-Ray a 85 out of 100.
