Coming off the heels of the long dormant Hey Arnold Jungle Movie film, Nick has announced it’s second “90s Nick” TV film in Rocko’s Modern Life. Taking Place after the events of the canon series finale “Future Schlock” (episode 53b chronologically), the one hour TV special will find Rocko returning to Earth after being in space for 20 years.
The new film will see Rocko and his friends on Earth getting used to the new modernized tech in the world according to series creator Joe Murray. “I’m very happy to be rejoining Rocko and my friends from O-Town again. What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it’s not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after 20 years, they can’t wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century. They still have a lot to say.” Said Murray.
“Greenlighting a Rocko’s Modern Life special is another strong example of how we are bringing our library content back for both new audiences and the generation that grew up on them in the ’90s. It’s a testament to the strength and appeal of these characters that so many people have loved Nick animation for these last 25 years, and we are excited to bring them back for new stories and adventures.” Said Chris Viscardi of Nickelodeon Franchise Properties.
Rocko’s Modern Life debuted as the fourth Nicktoon on Nickelodeon on September 18, 1993, and ran for four seasons and 52 episodes, concluding it’s run on November 24, 1996 gaining a cult following since it’s original airing. The series is available in it’s entirety in a complete series DVD box set courtesy of Shout Factory.
