Roccat has released the latest in their line of Vulcan and Kain gaming keyboards and mouses, respectively. With precision being the name of the game for PC players, the Vulcan & Kain perfectly compliment each other for both beginner and veteran PC players at a more than affordable price for the excellent quality that you get.
The Vulcan 122 Aimo and Kain 120 Aimo are a 2019 gaming keyboard and mouse. They are produced by Roccat and distributed by Turtle Beach. They are currently available now for $159.99 and $69.99 respectively.
I have done as much PC gaming reviews on this site outside of the odd game port or headset and that’s something I’m looking to change as I get slowly but surely more into the field. Gaming PC builds can be a stress inducing heart attack for beginners like myself despite how relatively easy it is according to my PC gamer friends. That being said, just because I don’t have a suped up gaming rig yet that doesn’t mean I have to miss out on the accessories that gives PC gamers a competitive edge over other players. And thanks to Roccat & Turtle Beach I’m starting with the basics of top notch PC gaming; a fantastic keyboard & mouse.
THE GOOD: Before we get into the gear itself, let me talk for a minute about Roccat’s complimentary Swarm software. It’s highly recommended by Roccat that you download Swarm for the utmost in experience and customization for all of your Roccat based tech, and I couldn’t agree more. Swarm makes customizing the Vulcan and Kain a breeze. It’s simple, easy to use, and cool as hell. You can customize everything from the key assignments to the lights in the keyboard and mouse, you can even custom the sounds your computer make once keys have been pressed if you want to get super nerdy with it, which is completely up to you. You can even customize set controls for a specific game in Swarm if so desired. Speaking of the colors, the Vulcan 122 like many of Roccat’s keyboards feature lighted keys which change into multiple changing light colors or even single colors if you’d like. Apparently Roccat and other gaming PC peripheral manufacturers have been doing the lighting keyboard & mouse thing for years, but it’s still very impressive to see in action for the first time.
Keyboard switching while not necessarily too quiet are as heavy and loud as most basic computer keyboards, though admittedly even the Vulcan’s keyboard switches may not be for everyone. I also dig the elevated keys, makes cleaning an absolute non-issue. I’m on a laptop for work with a ton of crap stuck in between the keys and whenever/if ever I get around to cleaning it out that will be a total choir to get through. In addition to the elevated keys, the Vulcan 122 also has a dust proof designed material to aide in the cleaning process. In regards to the Kain 120 has a very nice design that’s easy to grasp in the hands without feeling like too much bulk, though it does seem like the design was mostly built with the smaller handed individual in mind. Not sure if larger handed gamers will have much issue with Kain from a general use perspective or not, but this is definitely something to consider. I love mouses which give the left and right buttons their own space instead of forcing them together making misclicks rather easy. With the Kain 120 the left and right clicks are spaced out with a middle featuring the scroll and DPI buttons.
THE BAD: The Vulcan 122 key switches might annoy some as there is some noise, but it’s not as bad as most basic computer keyboards. Despite it’s smooth design, some people might have trouble with slips while using the Kain 120 during intense game sessions.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: For a grand total of about $229 and some change you get a gaming mouse and keyboard which compliment one another well enough for any level of PC gamer from beginner to pro. Cool design choices with clean up, customization, ease of use, and so much more in mind makes the Vulcan 122 and Kain 120 hard to pass up at their respective price points. Otaku Dome gives the Vulcan 122 and Kain 120 a 90 & 83 out of 100 respectively.
