Ubisoft’s new open-world action title Watch Dogs is a great game with beautiful graphics, however there are some issues present. The lack of a great soundtrack and relay value being just a couple of annoyances.
Watch Dogs is a 2014 open world action game, it is developed and published by Ubisoft. It is available on PC, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and soon Wii U.
Watch Dogs is Ubisoft’s fastest selling IP, and perhaps the fastest selling new IP on record. It’s excellent gameplay and stellar story shows that there’s plenty of room for brand new open world action titles. Despite how great the game is there were some noticeable flaws present, some of which I hope will be addressed in the next game, whenever it releases.
THE GOOD: The open world Chicago was excellently produced, and it was fun seeing some cameos. From Assassin’s Creed to Aisha Tyler, these little surprises made Watch Dogs feel uniquely real compared to other open world action games. The amount of content both in-game and online was pretty fun, and random crimes ranging in overall importance would appear throughout the game and it would be up to you to decide rather they’re worth your time or not. However, completing these crime missions will upgrade your moral mete, which allows the city of Chicago to see you as either a hero or a deviant.
THE BAD: There was a serious lack of content in the soundtrack. Yes you could hack the phones of Chicago citizens to get more songs, but you’d have to be extremely lucky to have this occur and it still wasn’t much of an expansion. Game breaking glitches were also apparent but luckily they were just as rare. Once the main story campaign is completed the game doesn’t give you much else to do post story mode, unless you plan on playing exclusively online from that point forward.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: While Watch Dogs provides some excellent content and a fantastic open world, some game stopping glitches got in the way here and there. There was a lack of post game content and soundtrack, having the ability to unlock more of the latter didn’t really help expand the overall variety. The online portion of Watch Dogs is top notch, clearly taking some inspiration from From Software’s Souls franchise with the use of invasions and the like. Watch Dogs is an excellent new open world IP, though some issues were present the overall experience was an enjoyable one. Here’s hoping that the limitations of the original will be fixed come the eventual sequel.
