Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate once again brings players the characters of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors together again in a single beat em up game. Ultimate like any of the other Dynasty Warriors game features a fairly large map and an even larger amount of enemies for players to take on and they even bring difficult with them.
Warriors Orochi Ultimate 3 is a 2014 action, beat em up, developed and published by Koei Tecmo. It is available on Playstation 4 & Xbox One.
As the saying goes “if you’ve played one Dynasty Warriors game you’ve played them all”, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing nor is it an amazing feat. However similarly to Gundam Reborn & Pirate Warriors, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate thrusts characters from another world into Dynasty Warriors gameplay. With your selected characters which you can switch between at anytime, you face off against herds and herds of enemies trying to take control of territories and the mission.
THE GOOD: As stated, if you’re an Dynasty Warriors fan then Orochi 3 is for you. The insanity of dozens of enemies coming at you at once is pretty damn exciting, and a lot of the powers are great, especially when you see them taking out an immense group of enemies at once. The OST helps bring out a feeling of intensity this is felt heavily during the first mission of the game when you’re battling a Hydra of all things. The difficulty helped bring out the challenge, which is kind of rare for these games but very appreciative.
THE BAD: While a welcome addition, the difficulty can get pretty progress stopping. Another thing that was annoying was the strange download tactic, once you download the game digitally, only about 4.8GB gets downloaded. This leaves the remaining 16.2GB to be downloaded in the background, thus making a number of key modes (including story) unplayable until at least 11GB in total has been downloaded. Obviously players who own physical copies shouldn’t have to go through this.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate is like any other Dynasty Warriors game you’ve played, with a few new features here and there. Gameplay is fun and decimating hordes of enemies with only a move or two is always great to see. The OST helps bring out the atmosphere and the difficulty, while a tad annoying did bring challenge to the game. The main issue with the game is the digital version which blocks some key modes until at least 11GB out of 21GB is downloaded, but only 4.8GB was needed to launch the game.
