With the release of Uncharted 4: A Thuef’s end comes the end of another gaming franchise. The Legend of Sony’s Nathan Drake saga sends fans home happy. Originally launching two days and one year removed from the launch of the Playstation 3, the Uncharted franchise told the story of Nathan Drake, a young man who was a thief/treasure hunter on a search for adventure in his life. Drake ends up getting far more thsn he was barganed for having travelled all across the globe in dangerous situations and going against impossible odds all for the hunt of adventure. In A Thief’s End, Drake tries to settle down to a normal life with Elena, but naturally things don’t go as planned.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is an 2016 action adventure game, it is the sequel to Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and the fourth and final entry into the franchise. It is developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is available exclusively on the Playstation 4.
Editor’s Note: This review contains minor spoilers for the story.
I’ve played every game to date in the Uncharted franchise minus Fight For Fortune & Fortune Hunter. Having been a longtime fan of the game after coming into contact with a copy of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune by chance some time after release I quickly fell in love with the series. I was never much of an Indiana Jones fan growing up, but if I had anyone to compare Nathan Drake to it’d be him. The two are compared quite often by fans and the reasons why are obviously similar, but despite all of the similarities (and often times clear inspirations), the Nathan Drake character still had his own originality for modern adventure fans. That originality has brought Drake serveral game entries, spin off media, and now a film. Making Uncharted one of the most powerful video game franchises still going today.
THE GOOD: Uncharted 4’s gameplay feels like the Uncharted we know and love, with a few improvements to the gameplay mechanics here and there. The story is once again top notch, featuring the introduction of Drake’s long lost, thought to be dead brother Samual. We also learn that Drake isn’t their official sir name, and they gained theme after an unavoidable incident lands them in hot water as the Morgan Brothers; their real sir name. Visually the game looks absolutely stunning, and is by far one of if not the best looking modern Playstation 4 game to date.
THE BAD: Some of the story was a little predictable such as Samual’s obsession with finding Avery’s gold, Nathan finding a way to lie to Elena, etc.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End provides a satisfying ending to the tale of Nathan Drake. While gameplay was mostly the same new mechanics, a brilliantly written script, and an overall pleasing presentation makes Uncharted 4 a must have for Playstation 4 owners.
