Sega’s Total War collides with the Warhammer franchise in a brand new RTS mashup. Featuring factions from the latter, and gameplay from the former Total War: Warhammer has once again made RTS games fun again, for both seasoned and new players alike.
Total War: Warhammer is an 2016 RTS game, it is developed by Creative Assembly, and published by SEGA. It is currently available on PC.
Having only played so many RTS games (most of which being Total War titles), I’ve always liked how welcoming the aforementioned franchise was to new players, and Total War: Warhammer is no different. Featuring classes from the Warhammer franchise this new game is a testament to the long running Sega series’ greatness.
THE GOOD: Total War re-imagined in the world of Warhammer works well. The change from historical to fantasy settings is a nice change of pace. While on the surface Warhammer will look like any Total War title, in reality it’s far from ordinary. Though most of the gameplay mechanics are similar, Creative Assembly were smart to keep the game feeling fresh and renewed.
THE BAD: It may feel like familiar territory to more seasoned Total War players.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Though undoubtedly familiar to some, Total War: Warhammer is still very much a unique RTS experience, and continues to show why Sega’s Total War franchise is here to stay.
