Bigby and Snow White reaches a cold lead in their ongoing case, but things get heated up to 100 soon after as a new dangerous threat enters the scene.
The Wolf Among Us is a 2013-2014 point and click, action adventure game. It is developed and published by TellTale Games. Episodes 1-3 are available on PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
The first season of Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us has been an fantastic experience thus far, but nobody was prepared for what was brought to the table during episode 3 “A Crooked Mile”. The writing was top notch, with the action sequences rivaling that of Telltale’s The Walking Dead in terms of amazing quality. As Bigby & Snow continue to pursue the murderer of Faith & Lily, a brand new threat is introduced in Bloody Mary, and she’s one of the most sadistic & murderous characters Telltale has ever created.
Warning: This review has complete, to near complete spoilers for “A Crooked Mile”. If you have yet to play this episode then please avoid this review until doing so. You have been warned folks.
THE GOOD: The fantastic dialog and writing of The Wolf Among Us has returned in “A Crooked Mile”. With better choice options, and a more heavy influence on action sequences, episode 3 was able to provide some amazing gameplay. The classic whodunit format of the story is coming into full force at this point, and the introduction of Bloody Mary escalated just how dark The Wolf Among Us should be. This vile woman is basically a murderous danger junkie, and has openly admittedly to killing merely for the fuck of it. The way she was easily able to incapacitate Bigby while in wolf form shows that she’s going to be a major adversary come season’s end, and perhaps even beyond that.
The character development of previously introduced characters was really well done, except for maybe Blue Beard. I feel we haven’t really seen too much of him since the series began, though their may be a reason for that. Telltale also continues to impress with it’s roster of characters, the ordeals they’ve each faced recently along with new characters being introduced to add even more to an already bad situation gives The Wolf Among Us a feeling of a domino effect. Just when you think one horror is over, another escalates the situation, or is on an entirely different level.
THE BAD: Nothing.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Fantastic writing, improved action sequences, and excellent character development, as well as the surprisingly awesome introduction of Bloody Mary has put “A Crooked Mile” a mile ahead of The Wolf Among Us’ previous episodes. I’d even go as far as saying this episode rivaled the quality of Telltale’s The Walking Dead. The whodunit story is coming along rather nicely, and it feels as if you’re watching a classic crime film unfold as you continue to play it. Hopefully the remaining episodes will be able to continue “A Crooked Mile”‘s momentum, and if Telltale is indeed able to do such a thing, then we may have another masterpiece on our hands
