The Legend of Korra; developed by the acclaimed Platinum Games is now available. Acting as a bridge between season two and season three, Korra finds herself once again losing her binding, and the player must go through the seven or so chapters in order to get each element back. While combat is fun in Legend of Korra, other mechanics fall a bit short.
The Legend of Korra is an 2014 action-adventure platforming game, it is developed by Platinum Games and published by Activision. It is available on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Nintendo 3DS.
I’ve been watching the Avatar franchise since the original premiered so many years ago, and there’s been just as many Avatar games released throughout the years, but none have done all too well in the eyes of critics and fans. Imagine how excited I was when word got out that Platinum Games, the developer behind Bayonetta, would be taking on development of a game based on The Legend of Korra. Unfortunately, for a game developed by the aforementioned Platinum, Korra leaves a lot to be desired.
THE GOOD: The good thing about Korra is that Platinum knows how to make a good action game, so there’s not very much issue with combat. And combos are pretty fun to see, if you actually know how to use different ones. The pro-bending mini games is pretty awesome, but it can be pretty back and fourth making matches go on and on without a clear cut winner if you’re not careful. The OST being played during gameplay is also pretty cool.
THE BAD: It can be crazy difficult, especially when using talismans, which ironically enough are supposed to make the game easier. Some of the platformer was very off, and you would have to repeat a certain path multiple times before actually getting the landing right. The plot. while not really all that bad felt uninspired. Korra pretty much being the only character that the game is centered on was also a bummer, it would have been great hearing Mako and more specifically Bolin’s voice actors within the story, and the seven chapter run makes the game feel incredibly short.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: The Legend of Korra is a great attempt at a licensed game, but the short & uninspired story, as well as some crazy difficulty brings a lot of disappointment, especially given the fact that the game is developed by the great Platinum Games. Korra being the only character it’s centered on also didn’t really help.
