The Cold War Era is a point and click RTS developed by Alina Digital. It is based on the eponymous Cold War, players can choose between multiple countries, including America, Africa, and others. The goal is to make the map the assigned color of your alignment, which are blue, red, and grey for neutral.
THE GOOD: One of the awesome things about CWE is that it uses real life footage from the aforementioned Era, in order to explain it’s storyline and what not. The map looks fairly simplistic, so it shouldn’t be hard for none RTS players to get into the game if they actually take the time to do so. Admittedly I wasn’t able to be one of those people as I got stuck with jury duty, and had been with it for the past 2-3 weeks.
THE BAD: This is merely personal, but having no prior experience to RTS except for Brutal Legend (if it counts), things got fairly confusing. I suppose I should have watched the demo video above prior to getting our review copy. Again this in no way effects the initial score, just a personal gripe. Otherwise this game is fine.
THE UGLY: None in particular.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: If I was actually able to spend time with the game within the time frame given for our demo, I’m sure I would have come to love the game. Using real life war footage was a nice way to get the story across but if you’re not a seasoned RTS gamer or fan of war stories, you may have a tough time getting into the game.
I have literally had more fun playing with google maps than this copy and paste world map with a stray video.
