After nearly 2 years since it’s original release in Japan, Tales of Xillia 2 has finally made it’s way west on the Playstation 3. As one of the many JRPGs making their way overseas, Tales of Xillia 2 had a lot of hype to live up to and it delivers. From the great gameplay to an okish story and beautiful anime cut scenes, Tales of Xillia 2 is a great entry into the ‘Tales of’ franchise.
THE GOOD: Tales of Xillia 2 is one of the few JRPGs that I’ve played, but thus far is the most enjoyable. I enjoyed the anime cut scenes, gameplay, and open world. The OST was fairly enjoyable and traveling and listening to the dialogue was pretty fun. I had blast double teaming bosses and other tougher enemies. Finding loot and doing side quest for extra cash in order to pay off your debt was also fun.
THE BAD: The map was a tad confusing to follow at times, and it was difficult trying to continue the main quests due to the map.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: For fans of the Tales of series and JRPGs in general, Tales of Xillia 2 does it’s job. It’s a fun open world JRPG with great gameplay and some cool anime cut scenes. Side quest don’t feel like a choir to accomplish and makes the traveling fun, but the map gets a bit on the confusing side and can get in the way of progression. However when it comes down to it Tales of Xillia 2 is a pretty great JRPG that gives fans of the genre something to do while patiently awaiting the arrival of other JRPGs.
