Originally released as a Nintendo Switch launch title Super Bomberman R is now available across all modern platforms. Acting as a reboot of sorts for the action series Konami successfully revives the fan favorite series for the modern age.

Super Bomberman R is a 2017 action game, it is developed by Konami Digital & Hexadrive and published by Konami. It is currently available on PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Originally released as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch, Super Bomberman R was viewed as a return to form of sorts for the beloved Konami action title. With multiple Bombermen & Bomberwomen to choose from through the large cast of the Bomberman family, Super Bomberman R gives players a ton of different ways to play and even some Bomberman designs based on iconic Playstation & Xbox characters.

THE GOOD: Super Bomberman R brings a once dead series back in good graces. If you loved the series for it’s crazy puzzles and level designs then good news, it’s back for the modern gaming age. Admittedly I feel like there are certain aspects such as the view of the levels that worked better with the Nintendo Switch than on the other consoles, but that’s just me. There’s a huge roster of characters from the Bomberman family to choose from both male and female. And if you’re playing on Playstation or Xbox you can even choose a Ratchet Bomberman or Master Chief Bomberman respectively, I thought that was a pretty cool addition to the roster. The animated cutscenes are adorable and the voice acting is pretty solid too.

THE BAD: Prior to the recent update gameplay was a bit limited, especially when it originally launched on the Switch. Things get difficult fast so if you’re not into puzzle games then this won’t be for you.

A great start to a hopefully permanent return for Bomberman.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Whether you’re still playing on the Nintendo Switch or giving it a go for the first time on PC, Playstation, or Xbox if you’re a Bomberman fan you can’t help but appreciate the amount of effort Konami put into Super Bomberman R. While it initially launched with some issues, but Konami has showcased real promise for it’s return to game development by consistently taking care of Bomberman players with regular updates & content refreshes.
