State of Decay has finally released on PC just in time for the DLC content ‘Breakdown’. Does the PC version fix some of the issues with the original Xbox 360 release? Read on in our review.
State of Decay is a 2013 action-adventure, survivor horror game, it is developed by Undead Labs and published by Microsoft Studios. It is available on PC and Xbox 60.
One of the new playable characters.
Editor’s Note: We decided on doing a double review for both SoD PC and BreakDown since we received both simultaneously. For readers not looking to get spoiled on some of BreakDown’s contents then you may want to avoid this review until you get your hands on it yourselves.
THE GOOD: State of Decay PC corrects a lot of what was wrong the Xbox 360 including graphic and frame rate errors, thus making this version a much smoother experience after playing both. BreakDown is pretty fun for what it is, which is basically a survivor mode with a little bit of story mixed in. The extra characters added new depth to the previous story which was kind of “meh” at best, but the new story follows a new group of survivors trying to repair an RV as they escaped the zombie filled valley. BreakDown’s sandbox element is fun and the extra levels provided new challenges each time you moved on in the story.
Raising hell on some zombies!
THE BAD: Unfortunately the DLC is a bit short, and searching for the RV as you moved on in the story became a bit of a chore due to the stronger zombies coming at you at every corner. Some frame rate issues were there. but weren’t nearly as bad as the initial release.
Smashing zombie brains with a monkey wrench, nice.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: The PC version of State of Decay provided some much needed graphical fixes, but small frame rate issues persisted. The new characters and story in BreakDown added extra depth compared to the original campaign, but it was really just an open survivor mode, which made advancing to the next level(s) a bit of a chore.
