Ubisoft has released the first of two story expansion packs for South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The new DLC, taking place after the events of the main story has you team up with Mysterion (Kenny), The Coon (Cartman), and new playable character in Goth Kid Henrietta as they take on the game’s latest threat: Vampire Kids.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole From Dusk Till Casa Bonita is a 2018 DLC expansion of the base game, it is developed and published by Ubisoft and is currently available on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. It will be available on Nintendo Switch on April 24, 2018.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole once again pulls out some old tricks from it’s nostalgia hat in it’s first story expansion “From Dusk Till Casa Bonita”, and as the title’s references suggest the new campaign features the main area of Casa Bonita; a real life restaurant chain once featured on an episode of South Park (Casa Bonita). In the story The New Kid and Mysterion are tasked with saving Mysterion’s sister Karen McCormick from becoming a vamp kid. A new character also becomes playable for the first time; Henrietta, as well as a new class becoming available; the Netherborn.
THE GOOD: The first story pack in South Park: The Fractured But Whole provides players with a bundle of new content, including a 2-3 hour new campaign, a new class, gear, and playable character Henrietta Biggle the new content is a fun excuse to pick up the game again. The Casa Bonita area has a decent size of exploration from it’s entrance to the inner restaurant to even Black Bart’s Cave. There’s even an arcade that has a few playable games. The Netherborn class is a cool addition, albeit a bit limited and the story is pretty solid too.
THE BAD: The content is pretty short, as previously mentioned it’s only about 2 to 3 hours long. Henrietta, while a good story piece, doesn’t work too well as a team mate. Outside of her armor & burn effects she’s pretty much useless. Her ultimate attack animation is pretty bad ass though.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: From Dusk Till Casa Bonita is a solid start at keeping players invested in ‘The Fractured But Whole’, but I can’t help but feel that with a little more playtime it would have felt like a more complete package. The Netherborn class and new banter dialogues with Henrietta are fun, they just aren’t as satisfying as they could have been if just a little more time was added.
