Sherlock Holmes is back for another round of investigations with his trusted alley Watson. This time players are throw into the stories featured in the novel “Crime and Punishment”, while this game is more open world compared to previous click and point adventure titles, it also makes it a bit difficult to find clues.
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is a 2014 point and click adventure game, it is developed by Frogwares and published bu Focus Home Interactive. It is available on PC, last gen consoles, and current gen consoles.
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments is the latest entry into the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes franchise. The open world elements featured in Crimes & Punishments is an welcome addition to point and click titles of it’s kind, however it’s also a flaw as some clues are harder and more annoying to find than most.
THE GOOD: Holmes and Watson are back again for another round of cases to solve, this time based those from the novel of the same name (sort of). The open-world of Crimes and Punishments is an extremely pleasing sight for a point and click adventure game. Holmes’ imagination ability is used to find clues throughout the crime scene or scenes. As you progress through the story you gain access to new parts of the map, and you can even return to some scenes, such as Holmes’ home. Character customization is also seen in Crimes and Punishment. The multiple get ups Holmes could use felt vast, from suits, to hair, to beard & mustache combinations.
THE BAD: Sometimes the open world would get in the way of solving crimes, as players would have to use Holmes’ imagination in order to look for clues, and with the slowed pace this would take it would get boring here and there.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Crimes and Punishments is the greatest entry into the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes franchise. The open world is a breathe of fresh air for point and click games, and the character customization is grand. However, while solving clues the open world can get in the way of the fun when solving cases and looking for clues.
