Rogue Legacy is a 2D hack n’ slash dungeon crawler, with some unique RPG aspects. Each time you die, your child will succeed you. Every child is unique, one child might be colorblind, another might have tourettes, they could even be a dwarf, or have vertigo, “never choose the vertigo child!” or perhaps be the next true hero to lead you through the dungeon preferably unscathed.
That’s alright, because no one is perfect, and you don’t have to be perfect to win this game. But you do have to be skilled at least somewhat, because this game is hard, it honestly reminds me of a 2D Demon/Dark Soul, which gave. On the bright side, every time you die all the gold you’ve collected can be used to upgrade you manor, giving your next child a step up in life and another chance at vanquishing evil.
You should check out the trailer. It explains the game better then I ever could.
If you really want to READ about this game though, then you should check out our bullet list below.
Here’s what Rogue Legacy’s about:
- A generated adventure, dungeon crawler. Explore new castles with every life.
- Your character dies, but with each passing your lineage grows and becomes stronger.
- Tons of unique traits that makes each play-through special.
- More than 8 classes to choose from. Each class has unique abilities that change the way you play the game.
- Over 60 different enemies to test your skills against.
- Massive, expandable skill tree. Haul in the loot to upgrade your manor and give your successors a cutting edge.
- There’s a Blacksmith and an Enchantress shop, to keep your successor well geared, and upgraded.
- Equip your heroes with powerful weaponry and armor. Or gain new abilities like flight, dash, and air jumping.
A few things that annoyed about the game were:
Some monsters you encounter can be extremely difficult to deal with, and sometimes depending on your successor, it can be even more of a pain. Occasionally you randomly run into areas that are way over your level, so you have no indication as to where to go, which I suppose isn’t necessarily a bad thing because you eventually learn where things are located, still somewhat annoying when you first start off.
The boss fights really have no mechanics, at least from what I saw, or maybe I’m just bad, but the only way I could beat the first boss was to continuously upgrade my successors, and beat the boss dead before it killed me with it’s impossible to dodge moves.
My final thoughts though, Rogue Legacy is a great game, not much to complain about, just a few nit picky things I saw, but no worries, I highly recommend this game, here’s a quick link to the official site if you’re interested. http://www.roguelegacy.com/
