NHL 17 is the latest in EA’s long-running Hockey game franchise, featuring a World Cup mode, as well as a story mode to name a few, this year’s NHL title is a vast improvement over the 2015 entry in every way possible. Create a Hockey player and tackle season mode, take on the World Cup, or control your favorite team in Franchise Mode & much, much more.
NHL 17 is an 2016 Hockey simulation game, it is developed by EA Canada, and published by EA Sports. It is currently available on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Being a relatively new Hockey fan and having only played about two NHL games within my life (the first being NHL 15), I was rather impressed with the jump in quality between NHL 15 and NHL 17. Admittedly I did play NHL 16, but not enough to bring into this discussion, however I’ve never been as invested into a Sports game more than I have with NHL 17. The mindless fun of skating around on ice, swinging a puke, and starting a fight for absolutely no reason is some of the most enjoying moments I’ve had playing a Sports game.
THE GOOD: NHL 17 feels like an excellent entry into the series, having multiple modes to choose from both off and online, easily adapting gameplay for newcomers, and just pure mindless fun. Show stealers in particular are World Cup Mode, Franchise Mode, and Slapshot. Specifically, Franchise Mode giving players nearly complete control over their team from relocation, to arena upgrades, to ticket pricing.
THE BAD: Online issues still persist, at this point I’m really not sure if it’s my connection or EA’s servers, but something needs to be done. Funnily enough I don’t have much of a problem getting online without much lag or the like with most other games, so who knows?
OVERALL THOUGHTS: This year’s entry into the NHL franchise is one of it’s best, full of different modes to select, excellent gameplay, and just mindless fun. NHL 17 will be a quick fan favorite for seasoned players and newcomers alike.
