The latest entry of 2K’s NBA series is one of the greatest available. With a new story oriented My Career mode written and produced by Spike Lee, the linear storyline tells the story of player character “Frequency Vibrations”, as he rises from High School and College basketball to his debut in the NBA. Gameplay is as solid as it’s ever been, but AI could be up and down at times.
NBA 2K16 is an 2015 basketball simulator, it is developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. It is available on PC and console.
The well-received NBA 2K series ups it’s game with the release of 2K16. Featuring a story written and produced by Spike Lee, NBA 2K16 makes some small, albeit significant changes to the game. One of 2K16’s most admired aspects is it’s realism, while NBA Live 16 did a fairly good job with realism 2K16 just put in a ton of extra effort to make sure gamers received a true NBA experience.
THE GOOD: NBA 2K16 is as real as it can possibly get for an NBA video game experience. From commentary, to the pre and post game shows, to gameplay, NBA 2K16 is as real as it can possibly be for gamers. The story by Spike Lee was fun, though it felt a bit stereotypical, but was still generally enjoyable. The RPG elements were also fun to toy with as you increase your player’s stats as an NBA baller.
THE BAD: The story in MyCareer while good, felt way too linear for a basketball game, and the stereotyping was a bit much. Gameplay also didn’t really show much mercy for newcomers to the series.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: NBA 2K16 is a great basketball simulator, and is currently the best one available. The story in MyCareer was fun, though the stereotypes and linear direction felt like it was too much. The core gameplay is great, but it doesn’t really aid newcomers of the series looking to simply jump in from the get go.
